Sondra Campbell

Obituary of Sondra H. Campbell

Sondra Hazel (Hawkes) Campbell, 87, passed away peacefully on May 20, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. She dedicated her life to creating a warm and nurturing home for her husband and children.

She was born at home in Franklin, Maine on September 12, 1937. She enjoyed playing with her siblings, picking blueberries, going to the fair, and entertaining herself with paper dolls. Sondra attended school in Franklin and Ellsworth. As a teenager, her family relocated to Bangor, and she worked as a waitress and then as a pastry specialist at Campbell’s Bakery in Brewer. This is where she met over a donut and fell in love with the man she would marry, Norman Campbell, one of the bakery owner’s sons.

Sondra and Norman were married on May 3, 1956. Norman was in the U.S. Navy, so they packed up and headed off on many adventures. They moved and lived in many states, starting their family along the way. Sondra made some dear friends which she spoke of often during her life. Once Norman retired from the Navy, they returned to Maine, living mostly in Holden and Brewer. As Norman began his new career as a Master Electrician, Sondra “manned” the phone and did secretarial work from home. In 1990, she completed her high school diploma.

Her greatest joy came from spending time with her family and fostering a loving environment. One of Sondra’s greatest happiness was celebrating birthdays, holidays, anniversaries, weddings, and just plain ‘ole get-togethers for no reason at all. Her blueberry cake, lobster salad, and any pie were legendary and delighted all! She also enjoyed reading, going for long drives, watching the Boston Red Sox, and planning for the next big thing.

Sondra is survived by siblings, Hollis Hawkes, Jr.; Duane Hawkes; Larrie Hawkes; stepdaughter and her husband, Norma and Allen Saulis; son and his wife, Norman P. and Joanne Campbell; daughter and her husband, Bonita and Keith W. Pearson; son and his wife, Thomas and Pixie Campbell; son and his wife, Daniel and Jane Campbell; daughter and her husband, Karen and Maurice Day. Grandchildren: Amy, Laura, Jarod, Norman M., Joseph, Paul, Jammie, Keith D., Christoper J., Melissa, Teresa, Emily, Madison, Hailee, Daisy, Daniel P., Grace, and Andrew. Sondra also had many beloved great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her loving husband, Norman G. Campbell; dear son, Christopher J. Campbell; parents, Hazel and Hollis Hawkes, Sr.; siblings, Elaine Poole, Clara Johnson, Donna Hatch, Marshall Hawkes.
