
Obituary of Richard B. Roy
Richard B. Roy Sr., 83, passed away July 6, 2025 at Millinocket Regional Hospital with family by his side. Rick was born December 11, 1941, in Houlton, Maine, the son of Dennis and Celine (Lagasse) Roy.
He was a 1960 graduate of Houlton High School and shortly after graduation enlisted in the United States Army. Rick served three years as a paratrooper with the 101st Airborne “Screaming Eagles” in the early Vietnam War. After his time in the service, Rick spent most of his career as a Sheet Metal Worker at Great Northern Paper in East Millinocket where “you name it, Rick can make it”, was a shared sentiment until his retirement in 1999. Rick spent his retirement with his family camping, playing cards and doing lots of woodworking. Whether he was making special items for his grandchildren or helping his children with building improvements on their homes, Rick was often found covered in sawdust and ready to take on a project.
He was predeceased by his wife of nearly 57 years, Sara (LeVasseur) Roy, his parents, ten sisters and five brothers. Rick leaves behind many to cherish his memory. In Tennessee- daughter Cindy NaQuin and her family, Michelle Azor, Brandon, Lilly and Aowyn Azor, Melissa and Cole Biggs. In Mainechildren Rick and D’Ann Roy, Denise and David MacNeill, Rene and Michelle Roy; grandchildren Morgan and Brian McLaughlin, Taylor Roy, Mikayla Roy and Thomas Speed, Hayley Roy and Justin Smith, Nathan Roy, John MacNeill as well as several brothers and sisters-in law, nieces and nephews. Rick was anxiously awaiting the arrival of his great granddaughter, Sadie, this October.The family wishes a special thanks to Shean Crosby for always being just a phone call away and Betty St. Pierre for the countless card games.
A graveside service with military honors will be held 3:00 PM Monday, July 14, 2025 at at the East Millinocket Cemetery with a reception directly after in the upstairs of the East Millinocket Municipal Building, 53 Main Street. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Catholic Charities of Maine, P.O. Box 10660, Portland, ME 04104-6060 or at ccmaine.org/donate. Messages and memories may be shared with his family on the tribute wall of kileyandfoley.com.
