Obituary of Nancy Diane Emerson
Nancy Diane (Durant) Emerson, beloved wife of Almon Emerson, passed away peacefully July 24, 2025. She was born in Canton, OH, but spent most of her life living in Maine. Nancy prayed for a good husband. At church one Sunday, encouraged by her Aunt Pat and mother, met the love of her life, Almon. Her eyes still lit up when she saw him until the very end.
In another life, Nancy probably would have been a backup singer or a Solid Gold dancer, but in this life, Nancy was a hairdresser, an x-ray tech, phlebotomist, teaching assistant, and patient account specialist. Her best, and maybe hardest, moments were raising her children and spoiling her grandchildren, including many "adopted" grandchildren. She instilled in each of them a love of oldies music, karaoke, reading (especially Trixie Belden), proper grammar, the coast of Maine, and a love of God. Her faith saw her through many difficult times. Nancy was very generous, often putting others’ needs above her own. She showed her love by feeding people and giving them Flintstone vitamins. Nancy was always encouraging people to get in her pictures and to brush their teeth. She loved getting together and hosting events. Her home was open for friends and strangers alike. She loved playing games, having campfires, and making no-bake cookies. She was often caught sneaking treats to her beloved pets. She used her sewing skills to make clothes, prom dresses, Barbie doll outfits, and Halloween costumes. Her purse always held her lipstick, extra tissues, and gum for anyone in need. We're sure in heaven she’s continuing to share her infectious love, humor, and dance moves. She was always striving to be an angel on earth and we’re sure she’ll be one now, even if her halo is a little crooked.
She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Almon Emerson; beloved daughters, Kim and her younger sister; stepson, Aaron; dear sister Wilma Jean (Russ); her many cherished grandchildren: Kassidy, Brandon, Ciera, Ariel, Indica, Katy-lee, Miranda, Johnny, Jade, Midori, Cole, Emerald, and Clayton, whom she dedicated so much of her life and love to; in-laws, Lee (Mary), Derwin and family, and Charlee and family; special friends who became family: Chris, Craig, Erica, Shelly, Garett, and Brandon; her large, loving extended family and friends, too numerous to mention, whom she loved dearly. She is predeceased by her beloved parents, Willard and Muriel Durant; mother-in-law, Bertha Britting; and her #1 son, Jason Emerson.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to your charity of choice, and committing acts of kindness as she was fond of doing.
Nancy was adamant about wanting a celebration of her life not being a somber service. This will take place 1-3 PM August 9, 2025, at the Community of Christ, 128 Pierce Rd., Brewer. There will be a brief gathering upstairs at 1PM for those who wish to attend, and then an open house style celebration with music and snacks downstairs. We truly hope you will come and go as you wish, and share your favorite memories of Nancy. Dress comfortably and colorfully. If the church lot fills, there is additional parking on the side of Bennett Road.
