Obituary of Theresa Audibert Higgins
Theresa E. (Audibert) Higgins, 64, wife of Joseph F. Higgins, passed away at home in Bangor on Feb. 17, 2026, surrounded by her family. She was born on Aug. 16, 1961, in Lincoln, the daughter of Wilfred and Florence (Briggs) Audibert.
Theresa graduated from Penobscot Valley High School in 1979 and Husson College. She worked for many years at Merrill Bank, and later for Eaton Peabody Law Office and Verrill Law Office as a paralegal.
Surviving, in addition to her husband of 42 years, are her two sons: Travis Higgins of Bangor, Andrew Higgins and Brooklyn of Bangor and a granddaughter expected in July. She is also survived by six siblings: Wilfred Audibert Jr. (Betsy) of Lagrange, Debbie Knights (Mike) of Lincoln, Danny Ireland (Sarah), Dianne Williams (Delbert) of West Enfield, Terry Audibert (Karleen) of Chester, and Amber Jackson (Steven) of Greenbush; as well as her in‑laws, Michael Higgins, Mary Roberts (Bruce), James Higgins (Connie), Thomas Higgins (Debbie), Rachael Hackett (Matthew), Jeffrey Higgins (Jamie Beth), Constance Lewis (Jason), and Rose Ireland; along with many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents and siblings, Harold Audibert, David Ireland, and Barbara Audibert.
Theresa loved adventure and embraced life with enthusiasm and courage. Whether planning the next outing, organizing a game, or simply finding joy in everyday moments, she had a gift for bringing people together. One of her greatest joys was setting out on a spontaneous adventure, never knowing where the day would take her. The destination was never the point—she always made the journey memorable. She had a way of making every trip better than expected, sometimes even turning it into an unexpected overnight stay. Along the way, she delighted in finding someone she could speak French with, even if only for a moment.
Theresa and Joe were known for opening their home and camp, hosting the best parties and celebrations. They believed life’s moments—big and small—were meant to be shared, giving all who knew them many cherished memories. Throughout their years together, Joe and Theresa never stopped holding hands.
Theresa was always thinking of others. Her thoughtful, generous nature made people feel seen and cared for. She was the person who showed up first—often before anyone even thought to ask for help.
To her many nieces and nephews, she was the fun aunt—the one with the plans, the games, and the excitement that made every moment with her special.
Active and athletic, she brought her competitive spirit to everything she did. She loved the camaraderie and challenge of softball, volleyball, and most recently found the most joy on the pickleball court. Above all, she was a loving, devoted wife and mother. She created memories, traditions, laughter, and a home filled with love and support. Her legacy is one of kindness, connection, and wholehearted living. She taught us to open our doors, celebrate often, help others without hesitation, and love deeply. She will be missed—forever remembered and always celebrated.
