Obituary of Ronald Leroy Hanson
Ronald L. Hanson, 91, husband of Ann (Kerrigan) Hanson, passed February 19, 2026 in Bangor. He was born July 19, 1934 in Portland, the son of Albert L. and Alice E. (Hassell) Hanson.
Surviving in addition to Ann wife of 70 years, is one daughter, Leeann Hanson and her longtime companion, Bradford Mallard of Scarborough, ME and Intervale, NH.
Ron graduated from Deering High School in 1952 and from Portland Junior College in 1954. In 1955 he married Ann. He served his country with six years in the Naval Reserve and two years active in the US Navy. In 1957 & 1958, Ron served as a Sonarman on the USS Joyce while he was stationed in Honolulu where he and Ann gained lifelong friends and wonderful memories. Before and after his US Naval commitments, and preceding a career in finance, Ron worked as a Bellman at Portland’s Eastland Hotel in Portland where he collected colorful tales to share throughout his life. Ron was raised as a 32nd degree Mason from the Deering Lodge of Portland, ME. Upon moving to Brewer in 1961 he joined Anah Temple Shrine in Bangor. Together Ron and Ann enjoyed gaming. They traveled to Las Vegas, Mohegan Sun, Atlantic City and other destinations for entertainment and games. Recently they enjoyed Oxford and Hollywood Slots in Bangor. Ron savored the winnings and seldom spoke of losses. An avid golfer, Ron was very proud of his two holes-in-one. First in 1971 and second in 2000. Always a car enthusiast, you never knew what he might drive home. While very conservative, he delighted in his Caddies and stints with sporty foreign cars. Ron made friends easily. As a member of the Brewer Eagles Club, he might be found playing pool. He was a lifelong member of the Bangor Elks Club. If Leeann and Brad were in town, he’d take his “son-in-law”/buddy Brad along for a drink and some laughs.
With his dear friend Barry Twitchell, Ron helped launch Brewer chapter of American Legion where he also served as Commander for a couple years. Ron had a long career as a financial planner for RT Zeigler Royal Alliance. He regularly traveled to Guilford, Dover and Downeast to meet with clients. Many were elderly widows who benefitted from his sincerity and compassion. Ann just kidded about all his “girlfriends” who might send him home with baked goods or beautiful crafts.
Touching many people, Ron is remembered for many things…Breakfast-pal and former employer, Roy called him “the funniest guy he knew”. Cousin Cliffy Hassell remembers him as a “lifelong prankster”. Barry said Ron often “teased him about how many holes-in-one”?
His “Are you thirsty?” pal, Nick, described Ron as a “steady guy, who was always happy and never complained”. Mostly Ron will be remembered for the love and care for wife, Ann, and as the “best possible Dad and guiding light” for his daughter Leeann.
A private burial will take place at a later date in Falmouth. For those who wish, memorial gifts may be made to (St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital). Messages and memories of Ronald may be shared with his family on the tribute wall of kileyandfoley.com.
