Obituary of Daniel S. Russell

Daniel Stewart Russell was born on March 29, 1972 in Portland, Oregon and passed away at home surrounded by family and friends on March 25, 2026.

He served as the pastor at Calvary Baptist Church in Brewer, Maine for 10 years after serving at churches in Oregon, Washington, Montana, Colorado and Wyoming.  He professed Jesus as his Lord and Savior and deeply cared for his congregation and his family.  In his ministry he often shared his gifts of humor and storytelling, his incredible singing voice and musicianship, and his love of learning.  He discovered the allure of traveling and connecting his learning with the wider world. Through his church’s missionary work, he developed a particular attachment to the people and food of Senegal.  Animals, hiking, Batman, lobster and classical music were just some of his many passions that would bring a smile to his face and often a hilarious story to share. He was a cherished husband, son and brother and “Papa”, a true friend, and a beloved pastor.  His courage and dignity in the face of adversity were affirmations of his faith, and he will be truly missed. 

A Celebration of Life will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, April 4, 2026 at Calvary Baptist Church, 61 State St., Brewer, with a reception to follow at the Fellowship Hall.  In lieu of flowers, you memorial donations may be made to Calvary Baptist Church Senegal Fund, 61 State St., Brewer, ME 04412 or HERE.
