Donald E. Holt
Bangor & Brewer – Donald E. Holt, 90, husband of the late Anita J. Holt, passed away peacefully, Saturday, May 20, 2017 in Bangor. He was born June 26, 1926 in Hampden, the son of Ruth Holt and was raised by Ida and Edgar Babcock of Hampden.
Donald was a US Army veteran of WWII have served in the Philippines and served three years with the Maine Air National Guard, Bangor. He worked for many years for Maine Central Railroad and after retirement worked as a custodian for EMMC, Bangor. Donald liked mechanic work, gardening and playing the lottery weekly and he also enjoyed talking with and helping others. He was known as the “Bear” to some of his family and the “Mayor of Treats Falls Drive” where he lived for many years. For the past year and a half he resided at the Maine Veterans Home in Bangor where he received excellent care.
Surviving are one son, David Holt and his wife, Debbie of New Sharon, his daughter, Gail McVicar and her husband, Rick of Fredericton, NB, Canada; a special friend of the family, Twyla Margison; his grandchildren, Jennifer Holt of Bucksport, Kellie and Dean Bowden of Dedham, Dan and Jeannette Holt of New Portland; Jason Ryder and his wife, Crystal of Mariaville; great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by his son and daughter-in-law, Donald Holt, Jr. and Jennifer Holt.
A graveside service will be held 1 PM Saturday June 10, 2017 at Pine Grove Cemetery, Hammond St. Ext, Bangor with a social gathering and time of visitation immediately afterward from 2 to 4 PM at Kiley & Foley Funeral Service, 69 State St., Brewer.
