Obituary of Eleanor M. Sutherland
Eleanor M. Sutherland, 87, wife of the late Perley H. Sutherland, died Sunday, Dec. 3, 2017 in Brewer after a period of declining health. She was born May 13, 1930 in Kingman, the daughter of Roland and Doris A. (Davis) Worster.
Eleanor and Perley met and were married in 1955. They celebrated 53 years of marriage until his passing in 2008. She was a stay-at-home mother, living in Brewer, active in PTO, Cub and Girl Scouts, carpooling kids to their sports and activities. In 1976, she went to work as a teacher’s aide at Brewer High School. She retired from BHS in 1992 and began taking care of her mother until her passing in 2000. Eleanor and Perley began wintering in Florida, enjoying the warm weather with most of her siblings. Eleanor enjoyed gardening, sewing, and camping weekends with her brothers and their families. She treasured the times she could have her grandchildren to herself and spoiled them as she wished. Family meant everything to her. She organized large Worster family reunions and she was always willing to lend a helping hand to any family member in need. She was a beloved mother and sister, but also a special Aunt Ellie to dozens of nieces and nephews.
Surviving are her three children, Scott Sutherland of Eddington, Kelley Bernard and her husband, Anthony of Winslow and Gary Sutherland and his fiancé, Janice Woods of Brewer; three grandchildren, Shawn Sutherland of Brewer, Kaitlyn Bernard of Portland, and Maeghan Bernard of Winslow; four brothers, Ronald Worster of Lincoln, Cecil Worster of Bangor, Dana Worster and wife, Judy of Winter Haven, FL and Dean Worster and wife, Marsha of Virginia; one sister Thelma Siewert of Ocala, Florida and a sister-in-law, Martha Worster of Winterport.
She was predeceased by her parents and her husband, by her four brothers, Clifford Worster, Wilfred Worster, Delmont Worster, and Louis Worster by a sister, Lucille Worster and a daughter-in-law, Beth Sutherland.
