Obituary of Lorraine L. Veilleux
Lorraine L. Veilleux, 97, died peacefully on Saturday morning, January 13, 2018, in Bangor at Eastern Maine Medical Center. Lorraine was born on March 20, 1920 in Moncton, NB, Canada the daughter of Margaret and Felicien LeBlanc. She was one of nine children who have all predeceased her. Her family moved to Old Town in the mid-1920’s and Lorraine graduated from Old Town High School in 1938 as salutatorian of her class. After graduation she worked for the Agricultural Department in Fairfield and Van Buren, Maine.
In 1942 she married Philip R.Veilleux (deceased) and the couple had four children, Janice V. Baker (Mike), Mark P. Veilleux (Barbara) and two children who predeceased her: Ellen N. Didsbury (Kendall) and Phillip J. Veilleux; grandchildren, Catherine Aldrich, Ellen Alden (Mike), Kristin Gorrie (Tom), Benjamin Didsbury (Jenny), Fred Veilleux, Emily Veilleux (Jon), Christopher Veilleux (Liz) and Breanne Veilleux. Other survivors include 7 great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and special friend and caregiver, Tina Ramsey.
Active her entire life, she worked several years in her husband’s business and in retirement she and Phil spent many wonderful years at their cottages in Steuben, Maine and wintering in Florida. Lorraine was an avid reader, and expert in knitting, crocheting and a big fan of “Jeopardy.” Family was the biggest part of her life and she enjoyed those times spent with her children and grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 AM Wednesday, Jan. 17, 2018 at St. Paul the Apostle Parish, St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 768 Ohio St., Bangor. A memorial gathering for family and friends will be held in the spring. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Maine Veterans Home, 310 Cony Road, Augusta, Maine 04330.
