Obituary of James Lorne Stiles

BREWER - James Lorne Stiles, 91, died peacefully on Feb. 19, 2018, at his home in Brewer, ME, surrounded by family.

He was born on Feb. 17, 1927, in Melrose, MA, to Lorne and Mary (Murphy) Stiles. He joined the United States Navy and served during World War II and the Korean War. He married his wife, Jeanne, and moved to Maine. His working career was spent with Decatur and Hopkins Co. as a traveling hardware salesman in northern Maine.

He was an avid gardener and shared his bounty with many. He loved fishing and hunting and was an avid outdoorsman. He was a wonderful husband, great dad, and a good friend and neighbor. He will be fondly remembered.

He is survived by his children and their spouses, Sue and Reno Ouellette of Brewer, and Wayne and Lisa Stiles of Texas; three grandchildren and their spouses, Kristi and Nate Santos of Amherst, Chris and Leslie Stiles of Illinois, and Natalie and Jim Briggs of New York; seven step-grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren, Ky, Kate, Trafton, and Garrett Santos, of Amherst, Jonah and Juliet Stiles of Illinois, and Addison and Hunter Briggs of New York; as well as a daughter-in-law, Julie Stiles, of Bucksport.
He was predeceased by his loving wife of 64 years, Jeanne Stiles, his parents, Lorne and Mary Stiles of Massachusetts, his sisters, Betty, Josephine, and Margaret, a brother, Kenneth, and his granddaughter, Michelle Dunbar of Brewer.

The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the VNA Hospice Team, and the great neighbors and friends that helped out during this difficult time.

Memorial services will be held at the Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Augusta at a later date this spring or summer. Memorial donations in James' name may be made to the VNA Hospice of Eastern Maine, 885 Union St. #220, Bangor, ME 04401.
