Obituary of John H. Spellman
Bangor--John H. "Hacko" Spellman passed away peacefully Monday, April 30, 2018, surrounded by his loving family. He was born January 7, 1928, in Bangor, to James K. and Catherine Edna (Mazerall) Spellman, the sixth of seven children.
John grew up and attended schools in Bangor. He joined the Navy in January 1945 and was honorably discharged in 1946. He worked forty years for the Maine Central Railroad. Upon retirement, he worked for Darling Auto. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, a charter member of the Bangor Municipal Golf Course, and a member of the Bangor Salmon Club. John was an avid golfer, playing in many local tournaments, as well as a hunter and fisherman. In later years he enjoyed cheering for Notre Dame football, the Boston Red Sox, and the New England Patriots.
He was predeceased by his parents; siblings, Anna P. Thibideau and husband, Dan, Patricia R. Dimillo and husband, Nuzio, Norman W. Spellman, Janet E. Spellman and James F. Spellman; and grandchildren, Christopher Gellerson and Jackson Duprey. John is survived by his loving wife of sixty-nine years, Lois A. (Higgins) Spellman; children, Kathryn J. Vance and husband, Peter, of Bangor, James K. Spellman of Masardis, John D. Spellman of Bangor, Jacqulyn L. Williams and husband, Peter, of Bangor and Christine A. Gellerson of Bangor; grandchildren, Amy Hakola of Orono, Anna Gellerson of Bangor, Kathryn (Spearing) Wilcox of Bangor, Sarah (Spearing) Nida and husband, John, of New Orleans, LA., Michael Vance of Albany, NY., Amanda (Vance) Clough and husband, Jeremy, of SC, and Jonathan Martin and fiancée, Mariah Cyr, of Bangor; brother, William K. Spellman of Bangor; sister-in-law, Marlene Spellman of FL; special nephew, Jerry Dimillo and wife, Annette, of Scarborough; eight great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.

Family and friends are invited to visit 4-7 p.m. Monday, May 7, at Kiley & Foley Funeral Service, 299 Union St., Bangor. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 8, at St. Paul the Apostle Parish, St. John Catholic Church, 207 York St., Bangor.
