Obituary of Myrtle A. Butterfield
Brewer - Myrtle A. Butterfield, better known as “Nan” or “Mynie” to her family, 98, passed away September 15, 2018, with close loved ones at her side. Myrtle was born September 22, 1919, in Washburn, Maine. She was the daughter of Mont Price and Edna Blanche (Conley) Price. Myrtle lived and worked in Washburn until 1976, when she joined her daughter Cynthia and family in Brewer. Myrtle was a hard worker, to whom family and friends always came first. While in Washburn, she was employed by both TaterState Frozen Foods and Raymond’s Rexall Pharmacy. Myrtle also liked to occasionally reminisce about her early days picking potatoes, when at 110 pounds she once recorded 121 barrels in one day! After moving to Brewer, Myrtle worked at FashionWay Boutique and Marden’s Surplus. Along with her employment and family, she enjoyed friends, the great outdoors, growing and nurturing flowers, reading, and watching the Red Sox and Celtics.
In addition to her parents, Myrtle was predeceased by her older sister Vella Donovan and brother-in-law Win Donovan of Washburn, and brother-in-law Dale Umphrey of Anchorage, Alaska. She is survived by a younger sister, Mary Umphrey of Anchorage, Alaska. Further, Myrtle is survived by her daughter Cynthia Churchill and son-in-law Nate of Brewer, along with son Dennis Ballard and companion Joyce Pratt of Hermon. Other surviving family members include grandson Dean Churchill of Bangor, grandson James Churchill and wife Margaret of Hampden, granddaughter Alison Bailey and husband Troy of Hampden, and granddaughter Cindy Callender and husband Emile of South Portland. Myrtle also had seven great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
Special relatives and friends of Myrtle’s included niece Patsy Jardine of Dothan, Alabama; granddaughter-in-law Lynne Thomas of Hernando, Florida; and friends Shirley Estes of Brewer and Penny Jo Holmes of Saco, Maine. Additionally, the family would like to acknowledge some of the especially-caring staff members at Brewer Center for Health and Rehabilitation.
A graveside memorial service in remembrance of Myrtle’s life will be held at Riverside Cemetery Extension in Washburn at 1100AM on Saturday, September 29, 2018.
