Obituary of Albert L. Bean
Bangor - Albert Leroy Bean, son of Weiler A. Bean and Amy Perry Bean and stepson of Inez Davis Bean, born May 26, 1926, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 24, 2018. A lifelong resident of Bangor, he graduated from Bangor High School and the University of Maine. His life's work was the family business, W.A. Bean & Sons, in Bangor. He and his brother, Frederick, the 4th generation of the business, ran it for many years.
Albert was active in a number of community organizations including the Jaycees, Toastmasters, TB & Health, Together Place, and Shaw House. In his mid-forties, he fulfilled a dream of moving his grandparents' home to the back field on Ohio St., expanding it (Mother's idea) and renovating it. This large family home was the site of many varied gatherings over the years. The Guiding Star Spiritualist Church held meetings there for a time. The Northern Maine Chapter of Dowsers met there monthly for many years. Music was a lifelong love of Albert's. He played the piano beautifully by ear in one key- E flat. Arcady Music Festival and Surry Opera Company were among many music organizations that took advantage of Albert's prized piano to stage musical performances at the home. Albert enjoyed the company of many visiting musicians hosted by the Beans, and many other stray folks found a home there when it was most needed.
Albert is survived by his wife of 70 years, Emily Leach Bean, who his world revolved around, his six children: Elizabeth Bean and her partner, Peter Leach, Dorothy Lippincott and husband, Bill, Judith Bean, John Bean, David Bean and wife, Diane, Albert Bean Jr., and grandchildren, Ian Bean and Breanna Bean, and great granddaughter, Liva Sidenius.
