Visitation at Main Service
Obituary of Carl Andrew Sjogren
Ashland & Bangor—Carl A. Sjogren, 68, went to be with his Heavenly Father on the beautiful, crisp fall morning of October 14, 2018, after a hard fought three year battle with pancreatic cancer. He passed away at home surrounded by his loving family. He was the son of the late Andrew and Virginia Sjogren.
Carl completed college degrees at Unity College and the University of Maine at Orono. He then began teaching Vocational Forestry at Ashland Community High School, followed by a 32 year career as a Forester with Prentiss & Carlisle. Carl lived a life of service: service to his country, service to his community, friends, neighbors, church, and most importantly his family. His list of accomplishments could fill a journal. A few of the things he would list include Navy Veteran, President of Union Congregational Church, Rotarian, Boy Scout leader, North Maine Woods Committee, and many more. Carl would volunteer to help anyone with anything, regardless of their need. When speaking to him about his life, these things would pale in comparison to his loyalty and love for his family. This was his proudest accomplishment.
A perfect day for Carl was any day spent outside enjoying nature with family members or friends (who felt like family when they were with him). Fall was his favorite time of year. He shared his love of nature with his grandchildren when he took them on day trips in the North Maine Woods. "Pop Pop" taught them a lot and they were some of his fondest memories.
Cathy and Carl were married at ages 18 and 19. His country would be calling and they knew they could not be apart. With $50 in their pocket and a bucket list of hope, dreams, and adventures, their journey began. They treasured their adventures—time with parents, children, grandchildren, shooting dump rats, woods roads, card games, hunting, cruising, and so much more. "He's on this trip without me this time but I know we will be together again. We will love you forever and always."
Carl is survived by his wife of 48 years, Catherine Sjogren; daughter Denise Sudborough and husband Jason of Bangor; son Andrew Sjogren of Dixmont; grandchildren Dylan and Kaylee Sjogren and Raiden Sudborough; brother Richard Sjogren and wife Kathy of FL; uncle Edward Cochran and wife Ginny of MA; many nieces, nephews, ad cousins; brother and sister in-laws Sheldon and Mary McCormick of Waldo, Rose Dudley of Belfast, Anna Fortenberry of FL, David Mollison of Chase Plantation, Barbara and Grayling Cunningham of Searsport, Anita and Alan Darby of VA; Kerri Day, the mother of Kaylee and Dylan, whom he loved; Laurie Morrison and her children Brayden Reier and Mason Morrison, whom he loved like grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations be made to Sarah's House, 346 Main Rd., Holden, ME 04429. They also encourage you to do a nice deed for someone, because that is what Carl would do.
Family and friends are invited to visit 1:30-3 PM Sunday, October 28, 2018, at Jeff's Catering, 15 Littlefield Rd., Brewer. A celebration of life will be held at 3 PM. Messages and memories may be shared with the family at kileyandfoley.com
