Bangor - Paula Plaisted Mooney, 93, crossed over into eternal life on December 8th, surrounded by her family. She was born in Princeton, Maine on December 30, 1924, the third of five children of Claire Johnson Plaisted and William Paul Plaisted. She was a member of the Princeton Congregational Church during her youth, and spent many happy summers throughout her life with her family at Big Lake in Princeton. She was proud of her Native heritage, as well as her ancestors who included two governors of Maine in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Paula graduated from Eastern Maine General Hospital School of Nursing in 1946, and the University of Maine in 1950. She was a member of the US Army Nurse Cadet Corps during WW II, and worked as a nurse at various times throughout her life until her retirement from the profession in 1989. She also shared her nursing knowledge and compassion as a volunteer for a number of local concerns that cared for underserved and marginalized people. She was a talented artist and musician, as well as a lifelong learner, having taken courses at Bangor Theological Seminary. She was a communicant for most of her adult life at St. John's Catholic Church in Bangor, and a founding member of Our Lady of Wisdom Prayer Group. She was a supporter of the Transfiguration Hermitage in Windsor, Maine. She moved to Camden, Maine in 2011 and resided at Anderson Inn, Quarry Hill, where her liveliness and sense of humor were kindly appreciated by the warm and caring staff of the Courtyard. She also enjoyed the company of her friends and playing the piano at the Wednesday Afternoon Soup Lunch at the First Congregational Church. She was a communicant at Our Lady of Good Hope Catholic Church. She was predeceased by her husband, James A. Mooney; her son Matthew Mooney; her parents; her brothers William (and wife, Margaret), Charles (and wife, Barbara) and Fred; nieces Suzanne Plaisted Perkins and Catherine Richard; nephew Paul Plaisted and several other nieces and nephews. She is survived by her children Patrick Mooney, Jeannie Mooney (George Harrison), Mary Mooney Mueller (Robert Mueller, deceased), Madonna Mooney, James Mooney (Dana Whiteside), Francis Mooney, Claire Mooney, Thomas Mooney (Yilan); her sister Jean Sprague (Stephen Sprague, deceased); her grandchildren Patrick (Elyse) Michael F. (Heather), Dominic, Michael J., and Samantha; great-grandchildren Madeline, Claire, Lydia and Owen; nieces Sandra, Sarah Sue and Mary Margaret; nephews Eric and Samuel; and several other nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews and cousins. Family and friends are invited to visit 4 pm to 7 pm, Tuesday, December 11th at Kiley & Foley Funeral Services, 299 Union St., Bangor. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, December 12th at 2 pm at St. Paul the Apostle Parish, St. John's Catholic Church, 217 York St., Bangor. Burial will take place following the service at Mt. Pleasant Catholic Cemetery, Bangor. A reception will be held in the church hall following the burial. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Bangor Area Homeless Shelter at 263 Main St., Bangor. Messages and memories may be shared with the family at kileyandfoley.com.
