Obituary of Morris Fitzgerald
Morris Louis “Skip” Fitzgerald, 79, died Sept. 10, 2019 in Bangor after a period of declining health surrounded by family and friends. He was born Feb. 15, 1940 in Merrill, the son of Miles and Jessie (Curren) Fitzgerald. Skip graduated from Oakfield High School in 1959 and served in the US Army from 1959 to 1965. He worked for B & A Railroad for 33 years in various capacities and was an engineer before retiring in 2002. During his retirement years, he worked for Napa Auto Parts for nearly 10 years. Skip was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing. He also liked to cook and watch Red Sox and Patriots games as well as spend time with his grandchildren.
Surviving in addition to his wife, Cheryl L. (Chudio) Fitzgerald of Hampden are two children, Michael Fitzgerald and his wife, Dawn of New York and Branden Fitzgerald and his wife, Beth of Hampden; five grandchildren, Michael and Michaela Fitzgerald, Ashley, Aaron and Blake Fitzgerald; four siblings, Dean Fitzgerald and his wife Jane of Millinocket, William Fitzgerald and his wife Sue of Connecticut, Helen Mitchell and her husband, Bob of New Hampshire and Faye Austin and her husband, Tom of Bridgton; nieces and nephews including a special nephew with whom he was close growing up, Bryant White and his wife, Pat. He was predeceased by a grandchild, Meagan Fitzgerald and by three of his seven siblings, Marie White, Jeanine Cratty and Maybel Michaud. Skip’s family gratefully thanks the staff of the Maine Veterans Home in Bangor for their loving care and support during his final days.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11AM Tuesday, Sept. 17, 2019 at St. Paul the Apostle Parish, St. John’s Catholic Church, 217 York St., Bangor where a reception in the church hall will immediately follow. Burial with military honors will be on Wednesday at Millinocket Cemetery, Millinocket. Messages and memories may be shared with Skip’s family at kileyandfoley.com.
