Obituary of Wendy Lynn Dorr

JONESBORO, ME AND VENICE, FL:  Heaven gained an angel when Wendy Lynn Dorr passed away peacefully with her family at her side on Sept. 15, 2019, after a long and courageous battle with cancer.  She was born on February 4, 1957, the daughter of Robert W. Hanna and Phyllis C. (Ferland) Hanna of Stoughton, MA.  She graduated in the Class of 1975 from Stoughton High School and went on to attend Bristol Community College where she graduated in Dental Hygiene in 1977.

Wendy practiced as a dental hygienist in offices in the Stoughton area and taught dental assisting at the Southern Regional Vocational School in Easton, MA.  In 1986 she married Dr. Charles H. Dorr and moved to Machias, ME, working with her husband to support his practice.  Wendy was a member of the Child and Youth Dental Health Program in Machias.  She was also an advocate of the Beth Wright Resource Center in Ellsworth and was active with the Machias Resource Room, both of which are available to help cancer patients.  She worked closely in these endeavors with her dear friends Ginny McGuire and Lucille LaRue. 

Wendy was a talented artisan who excelled in crafts such as needlepoint and cross stitch.  She also loved knitting and crocheting for friends and family.  She enjoyed flying with her husband and the many trips they took together, as well as their fly fishing experiences. 

 

Wendy is survived by her loving husband Dr. Charles (Chuck) Dorr; her sisters Leslie Hanna and her husband Daniel Miller of Herndon, VA; Kerrie and her husband James Robichau of Taunton, MA; Robie and her husband Lawrence Peter of Mansfield, MA; and Terrie Hanna and her husband James Pietro of Sutton, MA.  She is also survived by nieces and nephews Sara Kostas, Tim Robichau, Matthew Peter, Danielle Pietro, John Pietro, Nicole Pietro, and niece and goddaughter Samantha Peter.  She is survived as well by her stepchildren Gregory Dorr and his wife Lara of Bangor, ME; Dr. Christopher Dorr and his wife Dr. Carey Fister of Holden, ME; Andrew Dorr and his fiancé Kristina Geel of Bangor, ME; and grandchildren Drew, Tyler, Parker, Aaron, and Cooper Dorr and Colby, Luke and Dixon Rand.  She will also be missed by her mother-in-law, Ella Dorr of Venice, FL;  her brothers-in-law David Dorr and his wife Ellen of Holden, ME; Robert Dorr and his wife Pamela of Eddington, ME; sister-in-law Deborah Thomas and her husband Owen of Otis, ME, and niece Kristie Romac and husband Chris, and nephews Aaron Thomas, Jason Dorr and Nicholas Dorr.  She will also be missed by Zoe, her furry cockapoo.

Wendy also leaves behind her very best friend, Beth Bergman of Attleboro, MA, who provided her with loving support and comfort through the years until the end as Wendy battled with cancer.  She also leaves behind a special friend, Charlotte Urbano of Belfast and Jonesboro, ME. Wendy was predeceased by her parents Robert and Phyllis Hannah.

The family would also like to thank her primary care doctor Dr. Starie Seay and Dr. Audrey Garrett and the outstanding staff at Northern Light Lafayette Family Cancer Institute.

A memorial service celebrating Wendy’s life will be held Saturday, September 28th, at 2:00 p.m., at the Jonesboro Union Church on Looks Point Road at the junction with Route 1 in Jonesboro, ME.  Donations for cancer research in Wendy’s memory may be made to Lafayette Cancer Institute, P.O. Box 931, Bangor, ME 04402-0931.
