Bessette…man :(, I remember vividly you coming to stay at my place many weekends while we were in Idaho, and we would go to the gas station, get pizza and snacks, and play video games until about 4-5 in the morning. Miss you brother, glad I found somewhere to post this. To your family I am very sorry :(

Tyler, I never knew you, but I've known your dad for decades. Even though you've been gone for almost a year, I only found out yesterday. My heart aches for your family. I only have one son, and couldn't even begin to imagine the pain of losing him. A Poem and Prayer to the Family…
What can I say to his family…to help ease their pain, when I know too well that my pain will remain…
When I heard the news, I cried at my desk…My heart ached so much… that I grabbed at my chest…
I am unable to shake this pain in my heart…I want to reach out…but where do I start?
If I fight though my feelings and just use my brain, Could I share some memories, perhaps ease our pain?
I watched Tyler grow up…from my own little space…I saw him mature from be-hind home plate…
This kid with a bat, a ball and a glove…playing baseball with “passion” and that’s what I loved…
I can still see his smile…his thumbs up with a grin…and high fiving his teammates after the win…
And encouraging his teammate…after a mistake…and I see him calling for time after stealing a base…
I see him chatting on the mound with his brother Ray… strolling back to the plate, smile and then say…
“It’s a great day for a ballgame, don’t you think, blue,” He’d wink, then crouch…and I’d call “strike two”
I have so many fond memories of moments with him…and they always include his “shy, sheepish grin”…
Though tears are still falling as I share this with you…I suddenly realized that what I need to do…
To ease my pain, to deal with hurt…I need to remember Tyler “the ball player,” uniform covered in dirt,
Jumping up from the base…his fist high in the air… His team needed a double, and now he was there…
Because whatever was needed…whatever the task…Tyler would do it…the coach just had to ask…
Having memories like this…I feel I’ve been blessed…And sharing them now…eased the pain in my chest…
My prayer is that somehow or perhaps that someday my words will help push some of their hurt away…
In closing I would like to only say that I know I was a very small part of Tyler’s life, but those 20 or 30 games that I was blessed by umpiring so I could watch him play baseball will ALWAYS BE one of the most cherished memories of my life…
Thank you for allowing me to be part of it…
