Obituary of Mary E. Huskins
Mary E. Huskins, 87, wife of the late George A. Huskins, Jr., passed away April 10, 2020 at her home in Orono. She was born May 10, 1932 in Houlton, the daughter of James A. and Mildred C. (Murphy) Willett.
Mary will be eternally remembered as a mother of nine and a military wife who later returned with George to their Maine roots. Mary worked many years as a geriatric nurse before her own retirement. She continued after retirement to volunteer in numerous capacities in the medical field and other areas of service. She grew up the daughter of a dairy farmer and thus loved watching things grow. Mary was familiar with every flower and shrub that grew in Maine. She always had slips of plants started for indoor flowers, seedlings being prepared to be planted outside or mature plants producing flowers and vegetables in her gardens. She also loved to read and play cards. She could often be seen with visiting grandchildren or great grandchildren on the putting green or in the dining room at her home at Dirigo Pines, or with the family at their camp on Webb Pond in Eastbrook. Mary also enjoyed visits to the homes of her children at various locations around the country. Tireless, courageous, loving and no nonsense, Mary Huskins exuded her own unique blend of warmth and strength. Mary was a lifelong Catholic and recently a communicant of the Parish of the Resurrection, Newman Center, Orono.
Surviving are nine children: James Huskins and his wife, Paula of Jacksonville, FL, Dianne Marceau and her husband, David of Searsmont, David Huskins of Bangor, Nancy Hughes and her husband, Dan of Boring, OR, Michael Huskins and his wife, Janice of Gorham, Steve Huskins and his wife, Gail of Leesburg, VA, Cheryl Huskins of Bangor, Robert Huskins and his wife, Cora of Fort Walton Beach, FL and John Huskins and his wife Leslie of Brewer; grandchildren, Patrick, Paul, Shane, Noelle, Samuel, Nicholas, Matthew, and Jordan Huskins, Anna Krahn, Natalie Marceau and Chelsea Herring; 8 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Theresa Steele and her husband, Ernie of Brewer, and Elizabeth Libbey of Scottsdale, AZ; one brother Thomas Willett and his wife Anita of Southport, NC; numerous nieces and nephews.
