Obituary
Obituary of Richard A. Babine
Our loving father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, Richard Babine, 70, of Glenburn passed away peacefully at home on August 19, 2020. Richard fought a courageous battle with cancer and was surrounded by family at the time of his passing.
Richard was the son of Francis and Helen Babine of Waterville, Maine. He was captain of both the Waterville High baseball and football teams and graduated from Waterville High School in 1968. After graduation Richard enlisted in the United States Army and was part of the 82nd airborne division at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. After completing his time in the service, Richard went on to study at the University of Maine and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Natural Resource Management, class of 1976. He spent the next 44 years doing what he loved as a Site Evaluator, a Soil Scientist and in his later years he dabbled in code enforcement.
People who knew him well can recall the stories he loved to tell about jumping out of planes as a paratrooper in the 82nd, fishing the Miramichi River with his childhood friend Dan and numerous additional adventures that he had the joy of experiencing. Richard lived life to the fullest and always saw the good in everything and everyone. Richard enjoyed duck boat tours while on trips to Boston, attending University of Maine football games, skiing at Squaw and Hermon Mountain and fishing trips to Katahdin Iron Works. He had a love for the beauty of nature, perfecting corny jokes and bright beautiful colors - most of all, teal. When his children were young, you could find him coaching little league and in his later years he would be sitting on Sand Beach with his daughter and granddaughter.
Richard is survived by his children, Marc Babine of Dedham, ME and Erin Babine of Boston, MA, his former spouse, mother of his children and close friend Mary Andrews of Glenburn, ME, daughter in-law Bronwen Pierson, step-grandson Finn Wardwell, and granddaughter Eve Pierson from Dedham, ME. He leaves behind a sister and brother in-law, Carol and John Picchiotti of Fairfield ME and many loving nieces & nephews who include; Jon Picchiotti of Saco, ME, Jon’s daughter & granddaughter, Emily & Aria Colbert, Todd Picchiotti of Fairfield, ME, Todd’s sons, Wayland, Jeremiah, Tristan & Julian, Kirk Picchiotti of Cape Coral, FL, Kristin Luke of Cape Elizabeth, ME, Kristin’s sons, Liam and Kellan, John Downing of Portland, ME, Shanna Goodine of Buxton ME, Shanna’s daughter Hannah, Kaitlyn Sprague of Boston, MA and Drew Sprague of Newington, NH.
