Betty Jean (Savage) Hibbard, 96, sadly passed away Nov. 27, 2020 at a Bangor assisted living center without her sons by her side. She was born October 29, 1924 in Eastport, the daughter of Eugene and Helen Craig. Her sons and daughters-in-law were fortunate to be able to visit her at her home recently on her birthday prior to her passing.
Mom grew up in Eastport, moved to Bangor and later lived in New Hampshire for several years before she and Dale began wintering in Fort Myers, FL and summering in Etna, Maine. She and her husband eventually moved back to Bangor where they lived until their passing. Mom’s favorite hobby was growing orchids and African violets. She donated many African violets to her church, First United Methodist Church, Essex St., Bangor. She volunteered at the church with “My Friends’ Place”, a program that hosted social gatherings and game playing for those coping with dementia and memory loss. She loved to travel and went on several trips with her friend, Harrison Pomroy and his daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Ronald Raymond.
Surviving are her two sons, William Dennis Craig and his wife, Shirley of Etna and George Michael Craig and his wife, Shirley of Bangor; grandsons, Kenneth Craig and his wife, Deanna of Florida, Wayne Craig and his wife, Gayle of Brewer; several great grandchildren along with beloved friends, Edwina Veillette, Nancy Raymond, Joanne Wilson, Charles Cook and many church friends. Her beloved kitties, Handsome & Dickens, reside with her son, George. She was predeceased by her parents, her husband, Dale Craig, her grandson Timothy Craig, sisters, Ruth Beaulieu and Doris Watson, beloved friends, Harrison Pomroy and Ronald Raymond.
Burial will take place at a later date at Hibbard Cemetery, Eastport. For those who wish, memorial contributions may be made to the Bangor Humane Society, 693 Mt. Hope Ave., Bangor, ME 04401 or at bangorhumane.org or to an animal refuge organization of choice.
