Obituary of Richard Charles Martin
Bangor and Old Town—Richard Charles Martin, 85, passed away peacefully January 16, 2021. He was born June 16, 1935, the son of Charles and Florence (Morin) Martin.
Dick spent most of his life in Old Town. He will be remembered by many in the community for riding his chosen mode of transportation: his bicycle. Dick was a visitor and friend to many people and business in town while out for his rides. He was known for his kind, considerate, and courteous actions. Dick took exceptional care of his mother in her final years. He was a devout Catholic, being raised at St. Joseph Church in Old Town. He was a longtime communicant of St. John’s Church in Bangor.
Dick spent his last years at Bangor Nursing and Rehab. Everyone there, and those he came into contact with, loved him and took great care of him. The family is forever thankful to the staff for the compassionate care they provided. The family is also grateful for Dick’s good friend Bruce Bragdon. Bruce would have Dick over to his family’s home when he lived in Old Town. He also visited Dick often and brought him things that he needed at BNR. The family is forever grateful to Bruce and his family for their kindness and generosity over the years.
He was predeceased by his parents; sister Rita Murphy; several aunts, uncles, and cousins. Dick is survived by niece Debbie Emerson of Yarmouth; nephew Mike Murphy of Litchfield; niece Diane Whispell of Durham; aunt Lillian Hammett; many cousins; special friend Bruce Bragdon.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to the Activity Department, Bangor Nursing and Rehab, 103 Texas Ave., Bangor.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 AM, Friday, April 30, 2021, at St. Paul the Apostle Parish, St. John's Catholic Church, York St, Bangor. Burial will follow at Forest Hill Cemetery, Old Town.
