Obituary of Lowell Alan Thornton

Please share a memory of Lowell to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Lowell A. Thornton, 65, of Bangor, Maine, passed on January 16, 2021. Lowell was born on January 13, 1956.

Lowell grew up in Topsfield, Maine. He was raised by his loving grandparents Joseph and Vina Thornton. He spent his childhood with his closest friend and loving sister Lorene M. Perocchi (Thornton) and his many cousins and friends. Lowell spent his early adult life traveling and living in different areas of Maine; specifically Topsfield, Mars Hill, Calais, Bangor, Lowell, and Lincoln where he worked for many years at the now-closed Lincoln Pulp & Paper all the while remaining close with his sister Lorene, who he adored, and her four children. Family was extremely important to Lowell and he always made sure to try to be part of his nephews' lives. He loved Kaleb Worster, Marcus Worster, Lenny Martin, and Todd Martin very much. Lowell loved his freedom but always made sure he stayed close enough to care for the people he loved. Lowell eventually used his love of people and passion for life into making other people's lives better when he became a caretaker working for disabled people with the company OHI. Lowell loved this job and excelled at it. Taking care of people was in his blood and it gave him great pleasure. Lowell performed this job until a tragic accident in 2012 would change his life forever. Lowell suffered a traumatic brain injury, and his life was forever changed. Lowell's freedom, independence, and passion for life were tragically stolen the day of his accident. Lowell went from taking care of people to now needing to be taken care of. Lowell slowly over the past nine years since his accident went downhill and was never able to recover.

Lowell is pre-deceased by his grandparents Joseph and Vina Thornton, his mother Lorraine Libby (Thornton), and sister Wanda Willis.

Lowell is survived by his loving family, sister Lorene M. Perocchi (Thornton) and husband Robert, Jr. of Bangor, Maine, brother Leland Libby of Vermont, sister Tammy Libby of Vermont, sister Terri Lockhart and brother-in-law John Lockhart of Mapleton, Maine, nephews Kaleb Worster of Lee, Maine, Marcus Worster and wife Loni of Lee, Maine, Lenny Martin and wife Corinna of Carmel, Maine, and Todd Martin of Gray, Maine, and many additional nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, as well as many cousins, specifically Jean Burrill (Moore) and husband John of Codyville, Maine, and many friends who he loved and cherished, specifically Lisa Sprague and husband Jerry of Topsfield, Maine.
