Obituary of Everett Warren Garland

Everett Warren Garland, Jr., 88, passed away surrounded by his loving family February 15, 2021. He was born in Carmel June 26, 1932, the son of Everett Sr. and Pearl (Douglass) Garland.

Everett attended school in Carmel and graduated from Carmel High School, Class of 1951. He enlisted in the Air Force in the fall of 1951 and served for two years during the Korean War. When he returned from the Air Force, he married Mary Verrill. Everett worked in sales for Arthur Chapin Co. and then S. Prawer Co. of Portland. He and Mary made their home in Carmel, where Everett worked for SAD 23 at Caravel Jr. High School as a bus driver and custodian. He retired from the school department in 1994. He served on the SAD 23 school board for a time and was Past Master of the Benevolent Lodge of Carmel. He and Mary enjoyed dancing, gardening and playing cards.

Everett enjoyed the simple pleasures in life: mowing the family lawns around town whether they needed to be or not; lounging in a hammock underneath a willow tree; watching traffic pass by on a warm summer day while sitting in the shade; laying down an unexpected “skip” card to change the course of a game of Phase 10; eating an ear of corn in under 5 seconds and being up in the bleachers at a basketball game.

Everett is survived by his wife of 66 years Mary of Hermon; daughter, Sandra Duplisea and husband Dale of Hermon; son, Scott Garland and wife Tammy of Carmel; five grandchildren: Troy Garland and wife Nichole, Lindsay White and husband Kenny, Ryan Garland and wife Andrea, Megan Ouellette and husband Jason, Adam Duplisea and wife Janie; eight great-grandchildren: Olivia, Madison, Braden, Liam, Mason, Jaxon, Jayden, Brentley; brother, Francis (Bud) Garland of Carmel.
