Obituary of Jean Ann Mahoney-Morse

Jean Ann Mahoney-Morse of Belfast, ME passed away on May 26, 2021 at the age of 77.  She was born on July 16, 1943 in Fort Worth Texas, the daughter of  Lt. Col Eugene Gilman Mahoney and  Edith Thorne Mahoney of Belfast, ME. She graduated from Crosby High School in 1961. She married Dr. Curtis S. Morse of Searsport, ME on October 16, 2005.

 

During the 1960s, Jean was employed as an expediter by the Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory

and the Harvard College Observatory both in Cambridge, MA. Jean received her Associate Degree in Nursing in 1980 from North Shore Community College,  Beverly, MA. For 10 years, she worked as a psychiatric nurse in MA and ME. In 1995 she became a Health Service Consultant for the State of Maine. In this position, she reviewed healthcare facilities to insure compliance with State and Federal regulations. Additionally, she conducted statewide investigations for reported healthcare irregularities in these healthcare settings.

 

Jean had a lifelong love of art and was a gifted and talented artist in many media. Her work was published and featured in several national magazines including Somerset Studios and Stamper's Sampler. She received several awards for her artwork in national competitions. Since her retirement in 2011 from the State of Maine, she devoted much of her time to her art. She participated in the Belfast Senior College Art Festival and the Belfast Art Market for a number of years. Sailing and traveling were among her great loves. She owned a sailboat moored in Belfast Harbor and navigated the Penobscot Bay area.

 

She is predeceased by her parents and a son Gregory Culver of Bangor, ME. In addition to her husband, Curtis Morse of Searsport, she is survived by her  daughter Valerie Huggins and husband Peter Huggins of Peabody, MA, daughter Adrianna Culver of Seattle, WA, brother Eugene Mahoney Jr. of CA, cousins Beverly Perry of Alfred, ME and Betsey Josselyn of Hanover, MA.
