Obituary of Nathan Adam Brochu

Nathan Adam Brochu, 28, passed away June 15, 2021 in the comfort of his own home in Kenduskeag surrounded by the immense love of his family after a lengthy battle with Huntington’s Disease. His family was right by his side as he was set free and went on to be with Jesus. Nate was born July 19, 1992 in Lewiston, ME, and was the youngest child of Luke and Pam Brochu. Nathan graduated from Bangor Christian School in 2010 and was a member of Crosspoint Church in Bangor.

He found his joy in spending time with his family, always enjoying his nieces and nephews as Uncle Nate, skateboarding, snowboarding at Saddleback, trekking to camp on the north end of Moosehead Lake and he was always up for an adventure! Nathan was a world traveler! Places he explored include Germany, Italy, Alaska, many RV trips with his family out west and even visited the majority of the United States.

Everyone who met Nate through the years were captivated by his spirit. People were moved by his love through his smile and the light in his eyes. Huntington’s Disease slowly robbed him of his ability to talk but he persevered. It never stopped him from communicating his love.

Surviving in addition to his parents of Kenduskeag are his five siblings Amy Beth Brochu Krikken, Ramon Krikken, and Aaron Spiller of Windham; Lee’Ann and Andrew Delcourt of Stratton; Nichole and Michael Weaver of Langtown; Zachary Brochu of Seattle; and Gabrielle and Caleb Guerin of Kenduskeag; and many cherished nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles. Nathan, a true warrior, the most courageous young man, brave and strong conquered a 14 year fight through juvenile onset of Huntington’s Disease (HD). Symptoms began at the age of 14 and he was diagnosed at 18 years old. HD is a rare, genetic disease that causes the progressive breakdown of nerve cells in the brain and is often compared to having, Parkinson’s, ALS, MS and Alzheimer’s disease at the same time. Huntington’s Disease often presents with mental and behavioral health disorders. We strongly believe God protected Nate’s mind, sustained his will to live, and guarded his magnetic personality. It is a cruel disease and even though HD ravaged his physical body Nathan’s spirit was untouchable. Every day he lived with grit and grace until his final breath. Because Huntington’s Disease is a degenerative disease, the time came when Nate was not able to independently care for himself. God provided exceptional caregivers who were loyal and committed to their loving care for Nate; they became family. Nate loved each and every one of them, and the appreciation he had flowed from his eyes. The exceptional care he received over the years could not have been sustained without the commitment, love and support of his team. A service honoring and celebrating Nathan’s life will be held at 11:00am Saturday, June 19, 2021, at the Crosspoint Church (1476 Broadway, Bangor) with Pastor Jerry Mick.
