Obituary of Dora L. Rexrode

Please share a memory of Dora to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Dora Louise Rexrode, 78, of Bangor, Maine went peacefully to be with our Lord Jesus Christ Wednesday morning, June 29, 2022.

She is survived by her four children, Sara Rexrode Dickinson of Hillsboro NH, Tim Rexrode of Bangor, ME, Victor and Rebecca Rexrode Chavez of Oaxaca, Mexico, and Andrea Rexrode Bannister of Milton VT; 10 grandchildren who will all miss her very much, Bradley and Brianna Dickinson, Jayda and Lili Smith, Aiden and Xander Rexrode, Jashlyn, Evi, and Masha Chavez, and Soleil Bannister.

She was born Dec. 21, 1943 and grew up in Brewer, Maine and was predeceased by her children’s father, Marlin Rexrode, her parents, James and Florence (Starkey) Dowling and her sister, Patricia Dowling of Brewer, Maine. First and foremost, Mom/Grammy/Nammy/Nana loved spending time with her children and grandchildren. She also enjoyed playing music, gardening, and site-seeing, especially Bar Harbor. She was an avid Beach Boys fan, a member of their fan club and loved seeing them in concert. She was an accomplished pianist and played at Columbia Street Baptist Church for more than 30 years alongside her dear friend Clayton Rogers. She also enjoyed playing the old pipe organs for many churches across the state. She was an accompanist for many schools in the Bangor and Old Town school districts. Dora loved music so much she learned to play many instruments while maintaining her passion for being a pianist.

She was very appreciative of the care she received from the medical staff while in the hospital. She was also extremely proud of her family members who served in the military. Her uncle, Edward Starkey, was a POW in Japan for 2 years from 1943-1945. Uncle Fred Starkey was a bombardier in WWII after the attack on Pearl Harbor. Her husband was a Korean War Veteran, and her son is an OIF/OEF veteran currently serving in Maine. Dora would talk to, and thank, any military personnel every chance she had.
