Obituary of Jacquelyn G. Dyer
Camden - Jacquelyn Gladys "Jackie"(Ames) Dyer died in Rockport, Maine, on July 6, 2024 following a brief illness. The youngest of eight children, she was born in Rockland, Maine, on June 12, 1940, to Julia Estella Ames and Lavon Stanwood Ames Sr. She grew up on the islands of Matinicus and Vinalhaven.
In 1959, she and her husband, Edward F. Dyer, relocated from Maine to Cloquet, Minnesota, and raised four children: Bob, Sue, Ted, and Joe. Following a 1974 divorce, Jackie eventually relocated to Maine, and lived in Camden, Boothbay, and Damariscotta, before settling in Camden. She dedicated her life to her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, extended family, and dear friends. Her love language was old-fashioned cooking and legendary baking – no one ever left her home feeling hungry.
She is predeceased by her parents, and brothers: Jackson, Murray, Lavon Jr., Raymond, Alvah, and Victor Ames, and her sister, Isabelle (Ames) Osgood. Her firstborn, Robert M. Dyer, died in 2013.
She is survived by her daughter Susan (Dyer) Jonason (Leonidas Jr.) of Bangor, ME; son Ted A. Dyer (Melody) of Glenside, PA; son Joseph A. Dyer (Renee) of Billings, MT; grandchildren, Laura Dyer, Merak Dyer, Darius Jonason (Patricia), Adam Boody (Christa), Amanda Jonason, Isabelle Jonason (Mike), Sara Dyer, Alec Dyer (Chelsea), and William Dyer; and great grandchildren: Logan, Charlie, Penny, Oliver, Edith, Eliza, Symon, Willow, Darrell, Luan, Kane, Charlie, and Christina. Many nieces and nephews also held a special place in Aunt Jackie's heart.
A celebration of life is being planned 2:00 - 5:00 PM Sunday, August 25, 2024 at the Banquet room of Landings Restaurant & Lounge, 1 Commercial St., Rockland. Messages and memories of Jackie may be shared on the tribute wall of this site.
