June C. Varney

Bangor & Fort, Myers, FL - June C. Varney or "June Bug" as her friends knew her, at age 98, passed peacefully on August 23, 2024, in Cape Coral, FL. She was born June 3, 1926, in Bangor, Maine, the daughter of David J. Cahoon, Sr. and Bernice Jacobs and was the wife of the late Richard C. Varney, Sr.

June was a graduate of Bangor High School and worked for New England Telephone for 25 years, retiring as a senior supervisor and was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America. June was a member of St. Paul the Apostle Parish, St. Teresa’s Catholic Church in Brewer, Me and the Parish of the Resurrection of the Lord in Fort Myers, FL. Together, June and Richard enjoyed golfing and playing Bridge, traveling including trips to Europe, summers at Lucerne in Maine and winters in Florida.

June is survived by her sister Annette Donovan of Exeter, New Hampshire and two children, Nancy L. Renninger and her husband, Carl of Cape Coral, FL, and Lisa A. Varney and her husband, Gary Damaschi of Blackwood, NJ; daughters-in-law, Ann Hackett of Cape Coral, FL and Luzia Varney of Miami, FL. June’s grandchildren are Samuel , Kathleen, and Joshua Varney; Adam, Nick and Sean Tucker, Bryanna Pendarvis and Colin Renninger and Christy Tayman; Annie Foxworth, John Lucas and Isabella Varney; Connor and Taylor Damaschi, Keri Pastine and  Brenda VanArsdalen. June’s great grandchildren are Isaiah, Gia and Vivian Varney; Lola and Sophia Foxworth; Caleb, Sophia, Aribella, Paislee and Everleigh Tucker; Aubryanna, Sofia, Josie, Christopher and Greta Tayman; Regan, Delaney, Morgan and Asher Tucker; Ethan and Ayden Tucker; Lincoln Pendarvis, and Dylan Renninger; Brayden, Brooke and Becca Rose VanArsdalen, Vincent and Alexander Pastine and Gael Chavez.

She was predeceased by her husband, Richard C. Varney, Sr., sons Richard C. Varney, Jr. and John G. Varney; brothers and sisters Philip Cahoon, Ernest Cahoon, David Cahoon, Jean Smith and Dorothy Holt and great grandchild Ty VanArsdalen.

Services will be held:

  • On August 31, 2024, from 9:30 am (for Family) 10 am to 12 Viewing and 1 PM Service/Celebration of Life at Hodges Kiser Funeral Home in Fort Myers, FL (239)-481-4341
  • On September 13, 2024, from 11 am to 1 pm, Kiley & Foley Funeral Service in Bangor, Maine (207) 942-0392
  • Burial and Committal will follow viewing on Sept 13, 2024, at Pine Grove Cemetery, Bangor, ME

Memorial contributions can be made to a cancer organization in honor of her sons Rick and John Varney.
